Bone Health

Learn more about bone health and how to maintain healthy bones throughout the lifespan by reading our expert and science backed articles.

Bone health is important throughout the lifespan, but it becomes increasingly more of a concern as we age. There are many risk factors that can contribute to having and maintaining healthy bones. Controllable risk factors include: exercise, lifestyle and nutrition. Uncontrollable risk factors include: gender, body frame size and genetics (among many others). Over time, hormonal changes that occur in the body can affect bone mineral density, particularly in women over 50. Muscles become weaker, leading to weakened bones and poor posture. This can increase one’s risk of fractures, leading to reduced overall health and independence. It is important to stay mindful of bone health and informed about which exercises, foods and lifestyle adjustments to consider in order to optimize bone health as we age.
