Weight-bearing exercises, strengthening exercises and stretching are all good for people with osteoporosis, and many yoga poses and exercises fall into these categories. However, not all Pilates exercises are appropriate for people with osteoporosis.
For example, it is important to avoid movements that involve excessive flexion (rounding), twisting and extreme extension (arching) of the spine if you have been diagnosed with osteoporosis.
If you are unsure whether yoga is appropriate for you, check with your doctor or physical therapist. If cleared, make sure you have a highly trained individual monitoring or guiding you through each movement.
